You got a worksheet today with equations to solve that have a variety of solution types (either one, none, or infinitely many). It is due on Friday, so you have today and tomorrow to complete the problems. If you lose your copy before Friday, you can download the assignment here and print another copy.
So far, we have concentrated on solving equations with one solution. We worked through the steps and ended up with an answer like x=2. What this means is that there is ONE solution for x. X must be 2 for the original equation to be true. Next, we will look at equations that have INFINITE SOLUTIONS. This means that the variable can be any number and the equation would still be true. Watch this video to get a head start on this concept before class tomorrow. When you click on the video, you will get a box that asks you to log in. Just click in the top right corner where it reads, "Are you a student? Click Here." Sometimes, you have an equation with NO SOLUTION. What this means is that there is no number that can be substituted in for the variable to make the original equation true. Watch this video for a brief preview of this concept. When you click on the video, you will get a box that asks you to log in. Just click in the top right corner where it reads, "Are you a student? Click Here."
Here is a video to help you practice your equations this weekend. Here are the answers to the homework sheet. Take some time this weekend to work the equations again for practice. Check your work!
You have an equations quiz on Monday. Take some time this weekend to practice equations. Here are some good sites you can use. Remember, the more you practice, the better you will be!
Option 1: Hoop Shoot Option 2: Balancing Equations Option 3: Online Practice with notes Option 4: Online Practice IXL Solving equations can be challenging, but if you are struggling with adding and subtracting positive and negative numbers, it can seem impossible! The best way to think about it is to use a numberline. Watch this video to show you how.
Your equations practice homework is due Friday. Here is a copy of it. Remember, you can always plug in your answer to see if it is correct. Get in the habit of checking your work!
Several of you were asking for an electronic copy of the activity from today. Here it is! Feel free to practice at home this weekend.
For those who want a little more practice, here are some Skill Checks you can try. Each has QR codes that you can scan from a smart phone or ipad (the app is free; just search for QR scanner). The first scan will give you a video to watch to help review the concept. The second code can be scanned after you answer the questions to check your work. This is a great chance to see which concepts you need more help with. If you struggle with a concept, search below for a blog post to review.
