The Pythagorean theorem can be used to find missing sides of a right triangle. Sometimes you are asked to find the leg and sometimes it is the hypotenuse. It is very important that you write out the Pythagorean Theorem and fill out the missing pieces carefully!
To find the distance between two points on a coordinate grid, you can draw a right triangle and use the Pythagorean Theorem. Example:
The area of the squares built off the smaller two legs of a right triangle add together to equal the area of the square built off the hypotenuse of a right triangle. Example:
